Our Story
The Society was incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1958 with the conception and inception of the first Chartered Section (Harrisburg Section) credited to a small group of dedicated engineers from the Pennsylvania Department of Highways, in association with a group of outstanding contractors, material suppliers, and consulting engineers in the Harrisburg area.
ASHE Southwest Penn was established in 1963 by Claude E. Bradley, Maintenance Superintendent for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways. Claude envisioned an ASHE section encompassing PennDOT District 12-0 and with this vision, he created the 5th Chapter of ASHE.

Soon after ASHE Southwest Penn's start, consultant engineers learned of the chapter and membership numbers grew rapidly. Today, there are approximately 315 members led by a dedicated cadre of Officers and Board Members. Our Chapter services Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

Our membership is diverse, but we are making a concerted effort to reach out to young professionals -- our future leaders. Our Section will prosper with their involvement, and we are excited to provide mentorship to, and learn from, our young members.
